Survivalism & Essay : Rough Draft Of An Appalachian Survivalist by Adam Chinchar

Survivalism & Essay : Rough Draft Of An Appalachian Survivalist

Adam Chinchar, A new member of Heirs Of The Wild published his first essay on our blog.

"Panic! Chaos! The social contract is void, and man has lost his collective mind! Or has he? Is the post apocalypse mindset just the product of Hollywood cinema? In all honesty, your location will probably have the most effect on how the social order would rebuild after a long term disaster, regardless of the circumstance. Folks in the Appalachians may be more suited to a nuclear situation due to favorable wind patterns, lots of foliage, and an already closer to self sufficient mindset, at least compared to people living in an highly urbanized area, and people in Siberia would be untouched by plague due to lack of concentrated population..."

What kind of survival you like? What survivalist are you?

What kind of survival you like? What survivalist are you?

What kind of survival you like? What survivalist are you?

First you can decide what kind of member Heirs Of The Wild you could be (Well you can be a bit of these 3 following profiles, but you may choose what you really feel like now...)

Homesteader / Prepper ?
Are you likely a Homesteader/Prepper? War or apocalypse might come; you built quite a solid experience in homesteading / prepping in your well prepared house. Strengthening your house, shooting and practicing often with your guns as well as likely growing your vegetable garden and animals are your daily routine.

Bushcrafter / Camper ?

...Rather a Bushcrafter/Camper?  You really enjoy the nature and can´t really stand civilization around. So every time you can, you just head to the wild to spend time hunting, finding wild food, creating objects with strong manual abilities you developed lately. You do not really care about your comfort and sleep rather in your shelter or tent. You also have quite good knowledge about equipment to survive some days in the winter wilderness or some weeks around your hideaway in the hot forest.

Wilderness Scout / Pathfinder ?

...Or finally a Wilderness Scout / Pathfinder ?  Sleeping two nights at the same place is not for you. You like to hike, hit the trails, and get off the listed paths from the map. You have a huge knowledge of nature and landscapes. Coming back to the civilization is impossible for you, as the life in the wild is your destiny.

Plants harvested this week-end (winter)

Wild food is not easy to find in winter.
We planned a small trip in the wilderness this week-end.

Plants harvested:
- Common Reed,
- Canada Thistle,
- Wild carrot...

But was too early for Stinging Nettles. If you have ideas of any other edible plants, we will be pleased to post your comments or contents.

Christopher McCandless alias Alexander Supertramp Birthday

February 12th
It would have been the 45th birthday of Alexander Supertramp, alias Christopher McCandless, whose famous adventure were described in Into The Wild.

Here are three quotes from him, found in his diary with his body:

“I read somewhere... how important it is in life not necessarily to be strong... but to feel strong.” Christopher McCandless

“If you want something in this life, reach out and grab it.” Christopher McCandless

“The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.” Christopher McCandless
